Mrs. Johnson

Glyda Pearl Crawford Johnson, 90, of Water Street, Flemingsburg died Thursday, July 29, 2010.

She was born July 6, 1920, to the late Lloyd Crawford and Maggie Adkins Crawford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Johnson; and a son, John Paul Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson worked in family planning for the Fleming County Health Department. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for 50 years and was a Kentucky Colonel.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Calvert of Flemingsburg; two sons, Wendell (Angie) Johnson and Gary (Margaret) Johnson, all of Flemingsburg; a brother, Cletis Crawford of Fleming County; six grandchildren, Kristie (C.C.) Campbell of Flemingsburg, Amy (Kevin) Ishmael, Wendy (Tony) Hargett, R.T. Johnson and Ashley Johnson, all of Fleming County, and Heather (Damien) Hitch of N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Jared Ishmael and Ava and Emily Hitch.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Billy Calvert.

Services 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at the Denton-Workman Funeral Home, Flemingsburg. Rev. David Barnett will officiate.

Burial in the Fleming County Cemetery, Flemingsburg.

Visitation 6-8 p.m., Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Seithers

Opal Gladys Meyer Seithers, 95, of Mount Carmel , died Thursday, July 23, 2010 at the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.

She was born in Lewis County on May 9, 1915, to the late Martin Meyer and Minnie Ackley

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otha Lee Seithers who died March 3, 1988.

Mrs. Seithers was a member of the Mount Carmel Christian Church in Mount Carmel

She is survived by her children, Norma Truesdell and husband, Floyd of Tollesboro, Kay Boling and Gary of Lexington, Geri Seever and Larry of Saint Lucie, Fla.; six grandchildren, Lora Froehlich (Dietz) of South Lake, Texas, Dennis Truesdell (Janie) of Lexington, Monica Ford ( Danny) of Palm Beach, Fla., Natalilee Seever of Palm Beach, Fla., Denise Alexander ( Mike) of Lexington, and Melissa Cheng (Alfie) of Somerset; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary Froehlich, Alex Froehlich, Matthew Truesdell, Kaylee Truesdell, Brent Angel, Grant Angel, Aiden Cheng and Madelyn Cheng.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ocil Meyer, Ezra Meyer and Carl Meyer.

Services will be Monday, July 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Barbour and Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro. Dennis Truesdell will officiate.

Burial will be in the Mount Carmel Cemetery , Mount Carmel . Pallbearers will be Floyd Truesdell, Gary Boling, Larry Seever, Matthew Truesdell, Mike Alexander, Alfie Cheng, Diekz Froehlich and Zachary Froehlich.

Visitation was Sunday, July 25, 2010, 5-8 p.m. at the Barbour and Son Funeral Home, Tollesboro.

Mr. Tumey

David Franklin Tumey, 62, of Williamsburg, Ohio passed July 23, 2010, in Manchester, Ohio of an apparent heart attack.

David was born in Flemingsburg Feb. 21, 1948, to the late Arthur William "P.I." Tumey and Alice Hartley Tumey of Ewing. David was a retired farmer and avid NASCAR fan.

David is survived by his mother, Alice Hartley Tumey; his wife, Judy Waldron Tumey of Williamsburg; three children, Angel (Manuel) Hunt of Carlisle, Dwayne Tumey of Cynthiana and David (Jessica) Tumey of Cynthiana; two step-children, Lisa (Joe) Waters and Rob (Tammy) Parks, both of Batavia, Ohio; five grandchildren, Dakota and Dallas Hunt, Austin Tumey, Alex and Katie Tumey; step-grandchildren, Heath, Tiffany and Joey Waters and Jacob and Nicholas Parks; and one great-grandson, Brady Luers.

Also surviving are two brothers, Barry (Joyce) Tumey and William "Bob" Tumey of Fairview; three sisters, Geneva (Estill) Helphinstine of Fairview, Donna (Jeff) Boles of Bethel and Sue Tumey of Fairview; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Price Bros. Funeral Home in Elizaville with Rev. John Conley officiating. Burial will be in the Elizaville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Wednesday until service time at Price Bros. Funeral Home.

Mr. Archdeacon

Daniel Eugene Archdeacon, 84, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Fleming County Hospital.

He was born Sept. 16, 1925, in Fleming County to the late James and Margaret Tierney Archdeacon.

He was a retired engineer with the C & O Railroad.

He was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle Gibson Archdeacon; a son, Ernie Archdeacon; brother, James Archdeacon Jr.; and a sister, Mary Catherine Schnell.

Survivors include children, Kathy (Don) Catron of Hillsboro, Debbie (Bob) Ingram of Morehead, Kim (Rob) Prater of Beechburg, Jennifer Archdeacon of Flemingsburg, John (Marilyn) Archdeacon of Flemingsburg, and James Archdeacon III of Flemingsburg; grandchildren, Leann Ingram McKenzie, Bobby Ingram, Amanda Catron Johnson, Melissa Catron Vice, Emily Prater, Carson Prater; and great-grandchildren, Braydon and Parker Vice, Cooper Johnson.

Services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday July 22, 2010, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. until time of the service, Thursday.

Internment will follow in Fleming County Cemetery.

Highway crews assessing damage

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. – Several state highways are closed in northeast Kentucky this morning as Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 crews continue to respond to overnight storm damage.

Crews are clearing roadways of debris where possible as well as assessing damage to roads, bridges and culverts.

As of 9:30 a.m., the following closures have been reported:

· KY 57 at the Fleming-Lewis county line between Flemingsburg and Tollesboro. This route, which serves as a connection to the AA Highway, is closed until further notice.

· KY 59 at the Carter-Lewis county line in the Grassy Fork area; and the intersection of KY 59 and KY 344 in the Kinniconick area. Roadway damage has been reported.

In addition, several areas are experiencing high water – KY 3302 in Fleming County; various roads in the Olive Hill and Grahn areas of Carter County; KY 989 near the AA Highway; various routes in Elliott, Rowan and Lewis counties, and elsewhere. Mud slides and road damage are also being reported.

Motorists are advised to watch for high water signs, particularly in low-lying areas, as well as possible debris in the roadway. Motorists should never drive around barricades or through high water, and should heed all warning signs.

As storm response continues today, Highway District 9 crews will continue assessing damage and work to make sure any closed roadways are re-opened as safely and as quickly as possible for the traveling public.

Mr. Edmond

Don L. Edmond Sr., age 81, passed away Friday evening at his home with his family by his side. He was born April 24, 1929 to the late George & Marie Bartrom Edmond. He was a lifetime farmer and was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Ann Perkins Edmond. Also preceding him in death were a brother George Edmond, 2 grandsons George William & Danny Lee Edmond.

Mr. Gardner

David Allen Gardner, 61, passed away, Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Fleming County Hospital after his long battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 2, 1949 to the late Steven and Mary Sauers Gardner.

He was a farmer and had worked at Somerset Oil in Flemingsburg.

He is survived by his wife Letha Gardner; daughter Melissa Whalen O’Connor; son Michael Whalen; grandchildren, Libertie, Darrell, Brandon, Jordan, and Savannah; and brother Steven Gardner.

He was preceded in death by one brother Kevin Gardner.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Internment will follow at Fleming County Cemetery.
