Mrs. Toy

Mrs. Katherine Thompson Toy, 52, of Flemingsburg died Thursday at the Fleming County Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Ethel Johnson and Fred Thompson.
She is survived by her husband, Eddie Toy; brothers, Howard Fred Thompson and James Thompson, both of Connersville, Ind., Jackie, George, Wilbur, Robert, Glennis, Sherman and Gary Thompson, all of Fleming County and Virgil Thompson of Chesapeake, Ohio.
Services are 1 p.m., Saturday, at the Family Worship Center, Morehead Road. Rev. Steve Hickerson will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Newman Cemetery.
Visitation is after 6 p.m., today at the Boone-Nickell Funeral Home in Flemingsburg.
Memorials may be made to the family for funeral expenses.

Mr. Spurlock

Hobert Glen Spurlock, 91, of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at the RidgeWay Manor Nursing Home in Owingsville.
Mr. Spurlock was born April 27, 1917, in Fleming County, to the late Luley Spurlock and George Spurlock. He was self employed.
He is survived by three daughters, Millie Claypool of Carlisle, Alta Fay Spurlock of Hillsboro and Celia Irene (Kenneth Ray) Walker of Hillsboro; two brothers, Kelly Howard Spurlock of Muncie, Ind., and Clifford Spurlock of North Carolina; three sisters, Glydia May Spurlock of Muncie, Ind., Pauline Stone of Muncie, Ind. and Sara Ann Spurlock of Colfax; 15 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Ellen Spurlock; three sons, George Nelson Spurlock, Omar C. Spurlock and Grover Clifford Spurlock; two brothers, Melvin C. Spurlock and Emmitt Spurlock; one sister, Ermine Spurlock Revalee; three half-brothers, Hinton Spurlock, Shirley Spurlock and Newton Spurlock; three grandchildren, James Nolan Spurlock, Rachel Lynn Spurlock and Fay Ellen Spurlock; and two great-grandchildren, Dustin Ray Reed and Jeremy Johnson.

Services are 1 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the Chapel Denton-Workman Funeral Home in Flemingsburg. Pastor Randy Hawkins will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Grange City.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2009, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Biddle

Mrs. Ruby Mae Faris Biddle, 77, of Ewing died Tuesday, March 11, 2009, in the Fleming County Hospital. She was born in Fleming County on Dec. 10, 1931 to Thomas and Lillie Farrow.
Ruby is survived by one son, Omar (Pat) Faris of Ewing; two grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Harris of Flemingsburg and Susan (Roger) Tapp of Owingsville; six great-grandsons, Cody Timms, Cory Ripato, Dylan Harris, Wyatt Harris, Justin Harris and Jacob Harris. Also surviving are four brothers, Roy (Arlene) Farrow of Tenn., James (Leona) Farrow of Ariz., Jerry (Carolyn) Farrow of Ezel and Ron (Barbara) Farrow of Walton; two sisters, Betty (Clayton) Gray of Lexington and Nancy (Denver) Caudill of Elsmere.
Preceding her in death are two husbands, Omar B. Faris and Howard F. Biddle; two sisters, Ruth Enix and Linda Farrow; three brothers, Robert Farrow, William Farrow and Marvin Farrow.
Services for Ruby Mae Faris Biddle will be at noon, Thursday, March 12, 2009, at the Mount Tabor United Methodist Church in Ewing. Rev. Ron Gill will officiate. Burial will follow in the Elizaville Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. - noon, Thursday at the church. Arrangements by Price Bros. Funeral Home.

Lillian Russell Gray Garred

1922 – 2009

OWINGSVILLE – Lillian Russell Gray Garrard, age 86, of Oakley Pebble Road, Owingsville, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky.

She was born June 22, 1922, in Fleming County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late James Harrison and Lillie May Calvert Gray.

Her husband, Claude Earl Garrard, preceded her in death on December 30, 1984.

Mrs. Garrard is survived by one daughter, Audrey Reed and husband Emery of Owingsville, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Randy Reed and wife Vickie and Lynn Reed; two great grandchildren, Travis Reed and wife Jessica and C. J. Reed; one great-great grandchild, Taylor Reed; one sister, Pauline Emmons of Owingsville, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Garrard was a homemaker and an employee of Pebble Grocery for 25 years. She was a member of East Fork Church of God.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at East Fork Church of God with the Rev. Billy Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in the Longview Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Tommy Bradley, Wilson Harmon, Donnie Smith, Bobby Scott Trent, Darrin Campbell, and Jackie Hornback.

Honorary Pallbearers: J. R. Gray, Kenny Gray, Harold Purvis, Bob Calvert, Josh Mitchell, Gary Buckler, and Leo Gray.

Visitation was after 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at East Fork Church of God.

MSU Eagles honored in Frankfort

FRANKFORT – The Kentucky State Senate today adopted Senator Walter Blevins’ resolution honoring the Morehead State Eagles on winning the OVC Championship and advancing to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 25 years.

Mr. Gilbert

John Anthony Gilbert, 34, of Flemingsburg, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, in an auto accident in Danville.
He was born June 11, 1974, in Lorain, Ohio, to Jack Allen Gilbert and Brenda Wright Gilbert of Flemingsburg.
John was an iron worker.
He is survived by his son, Kyler Mathew Gilbert of Clearfield; a daughter, Shelby Jewel Gilbert of Clearfield; a brother, Jackie (Kim) Gilbert of Augusta; a sister, Brittany Gilbert of Flemingsburg; paternal grandparent, Dorcus Gilbert of Vanceburg; maternal grandparent, Mary Wright Wedington of Garrison; and a niece, Madyson Gilbert.
Services will be Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Dickerson Funeral Home. Rev. Clarence Hall will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Lewis County Memorial Gardens, Vanceburg.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and 8 a.m.- 1 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Yazell

Ralph Lewis Yazell, 74, of Wallingford, died Friday, March 6, 2009.
He was the sexton of Goddard Cemetery and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Yazell was born June 5, 1934, in Flemingsburg, the son of the late Curtis M. and Bessie Hurst Yazell.
He is survived by a sister, Emma Louise Richmond of Wallingford; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Manning.
Services are 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in the chapel at Denton-Workman Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Goddard Cemetery where military rites will be performed.
Visitation is 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
