Dr. William M. Talley, age 76, of Main Street, Vanceburg passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at 1:15 a.m., at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville after a brief illness.
Dr. Talley was born in Fleming County, July 1, 1933, to the late Paul and Margie Cray Talley.
He was an educator and psychologist at McGill University in Montreal, Canada for 30 years. He wrote a multitude of articles for the Lewis County Herald and several history publications since 1962.
His lifelong interest was history and his passion was genealogy. He was a widely recognized historian and genealogist for northeastern Kentucky. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a graduate of the Ohio State University where he received his master's and doctorate degrees. He was editor of the McGill Journal of Education and Senator of McGill University in Montreal. He was a professor at Rio Grand College, Rio Grand, Ohio and was a visiting professor at Tulane University of British Columbia and Suffolk University among other universities in North America.
Surviving is a son, Paul Talley of Houston, Texas; a sister, Annis Willcoxson of Ewing, and lifelong companion, Vivian Talley of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Talley in 2005.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m., today at the Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m., at the Elizaville Cemetery in Elizaville with Pastor Roderick Huron officiating.
Burial will be in the Elizaville Cemetery.
