Mrs. Mattox

Jessie Mattox, 95, died Sunday evening Nov. 14, 2010, at Fleming County Hospital after a long illness. She was born July 24, 1915 in Fleming County to the late Rant and Susie James.

She was a housewife and mother of four children and supporter of her late husband, Calvin A. Mattox who died in 2004. She was a member of the Big Run Community Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty (Bill) Jett of Flemingsburg, and Pat (Jim) Garifalos of Cincinnati; a sister, Missouri Alice Colvil of Anderson, Ind.; six grandchildren, Jeff Dunaway, Greg Dunaway, Ricky Mattox, Chris Mattox, Meta Hernandez, and Erica Rascov; six great-grandchildren, Brandon Dunaway, Cody Mattox, Kimber, Tristan, Carissa Mattox and Alex Hernandez.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Calvin E. and James A. Mattox; four sisters; and two brothers.

Services at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Goddard Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., today at the funeral home.

Mrs. James

Dorothy Eulene Allen James died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 at her home.

She was born Sept. 25, 1926, in Rowan County, to the late George and Effie Allen.

She was a homemaker and great supporter of her husband, Paul in his sanitation business and singing. She was a member of the Heavenly Light Singers, Wallingford Christian Holiness Church and a member of the ladies auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Paul James; one son, Larry Niles James; a sister, Maxine Hickerson; brothers, Owen, Bob, Clayton and Don Allen; and son-in-law, Wayne Snapp

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara J. Snapp of Fleming County and Debbie (Marvin) Emmons of Fleming County; brothers, Ken Allen, Ivan Allen, James Allen and David Allen; sisters: Naomi Ross and Leota Moyers; grandchildren, Joetta (Rick) Marshall, Larry (Whitney) Snapp, Paula (Jason) Marshall, Bobbie Jo (Robbie) Vice, Dr. Jessica (Todd) Fortwengler and Casey Mason; great- grandchildren, Christa (Larry) Flora, Miranda (David) Utterback, Natalie Snapp, Brandon Tipton, James Fortwengler, Benjamin Fortwengler, Brandy Vice, Jessie Vice, Xavier Mason, Gunnar Mason and Richard Mason; and three great-great-grandchildren, Dakota Flora, Jeg Flora and Dawson Flora.

Services 1 p.m., Monday at the Wallingford Christian Holiness Church, Wallingford.

Burial will follow in Fleming County Cemetery.

Mr. Smoot

Bobby Gene Smoot, 58, of Flemingsburg, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Fleming County Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Shaw Smoot; and a brother, Eddie Smoot.

Mr. Smoot was born Sept. 10, 1952, in Fleming County, the son of the late Oma Rigdon Smoot Cooper and the late Carlos Edward Smoot.

He is survived by a son, Billy Smoot; four sisters, Patricia (Paul) Hunt of Flemingsburg, Darlene Hamm of Flemingsburg, Mildred Mineer of Fleming County, and Jennifer (Tracy) Souder of Ripley, Ohio; and an uncle, Billy Ray Smoot of St. Paris, Ohio.

Services are 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at the Denton-Workman Funeral Home with Dr. Chris Beckham officiating.

Burial will follow in the Pea Ridge Cemetery at Wallingford.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.

Mr. Graham

Michael Alexander Graham, 50, of School Street, Flemingsburg, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, in Flemingsburg.

He was born Feb. 9, 1960, in Fleming County to the late Goldie Graham.

Michael was disabled.

He is survived by a brother, Robbie Graham of Winchester; two sisters, Michelle Graham of Flemingsburg and Elenora Maxine Graham of Winchester; an aunt, Mary Huff of Atlanta, Ga.; a great uncle, H.P. Graham of Flemingsburg; and 14 nieces and nephews. Services are 1 p. m. Thursday, at Strawberry United Methodist Church, Flemingsburg. Rev. Randy Taylor and Rev. Marvin King will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Fleming County Cemetery in Flemingsburg.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m.today, Nov. 3, 2010 at the Denton-Workman Funeral Home in Flemingsburg.

Mr. Taylor

Palmer Pryor Taylor, 93, died Nov. 2, 2010 at his home with his loved ones by his side. He was the husband of the late Geneva Oney Taylor, who died Aug. 3, 1993.

He was born in Tazewell, Tenn., on June 27, 1917, the seventh son of the late Orville and Emma Farmer Taylor.

He was well known throughout the community and never met a stranger. He was a man of his word, honest and soft spoken. He loved his family. He was a farmer and loved his cows. He was a member of the Flemingsburg Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, Sunday school teacher and superintendent.

He is survived by three daughters, Christine Applegate, Sue Mitchell and Linda (Scott) Manning; two sons, Terry (Brenda) Taylor and Paul (Nellie) Taylor; several grandchildren, Shannon (Aspen) Taylor, Wayne (Lisa) Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell, Christi (Jerry) Kesterson, Paula (Billy) Fryman, Dana Sue (Bo) McVey and Kelsey Taylor; and several great-grandchildren, Austin Taylor, Chase Taylor, Hannah Kesterson, Ethan Mitchell, Mackenzie Fryman and Zackary Fryman.

He was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Daniel Taylor; a son-in-law, Clyde Applegate; seven brothers, Issac, Leonard, Horace, Harm, Donald, Aaron and Neil; and three sisters, Ethal, Alice and Jewell.

Services are Thursday, Nov. 4, 1 p.m., at the Boone-Nickell Funeral Home. Dr. Christopher Beckham will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Shannon Taylor, Wayne Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell, Scott Manning, Jerry Kesterson, Billy Fryman and Stephen Story.

Honorary pallbearers are the deacons of the Flemingsburg Baptist Church.

Visitation is today, Nov. 3, 2010, 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Rigdon

Earl Thomas Rigdon, 77, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home.

He was born Jan. 25, 1933, to the late Ollie Lee and Verna Rigdon in Fleming County.

He was a retired carpenter and farmer, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Thomas Rigdon

Survivors include a son, Alan Rigdon of Flemingsburg; four daughters, Sandy Mitchell of Flemingsburg, Debbie (Don) Castleberry of Hickory, N.C., Shirley Daugherty of Ocala, Fla., and Brenda (Greg) Burns of Fort Meyer, Fla.; and one brother, Delbert (Jean) Rigdon of Flemingsburg; 12 grandchildren, Leslie South, Tyler Burns, Travis Burns, Erin Mitchell, Eric Mitchell, Dalton Castleberry, Evan Daugherty, Samuel Daugherty, Jerri Lynn Daugherty, Shannon Daugherty, Pamela Daugherty, Nathan Rigdon; and three great-grandchildren, Darcy, Taryn, Sophia.

Services will be private at the request of Mr.Rigdon.

Mr. Fannin

Lytle Talmadge Fannin, 88, of Hillsboro, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at Patriot Ridge Nursing Home in Fairborne, Ohio.

He was a former electrician at Air Temp Chrysler Corp.

Mr. Fannin was born Oct. 8, 1922, in Fleming County, the son of the late Ella and Roy Fannin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Newman Fannin; a brother, Eugene Fannin; and a sister, Pauline Emmons.

Survivors include a son, Tom (Darlene) Fannin of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Melissa (Keith) Harmon of Flemingsburg, and Bonnie (Bill) Kreitzer of Kettering, Ohio; a brother, Jimmy (Daisy) Fannin of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services are 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, in the chapel at Denton-Workman Funeral Home with Dr. Chris Beckham officiating.

Burial will follow in the Newman Cemetery at Hillsboro.

Visitation is 1 p.m. until the hour of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
