Fleming County School Board officially elected Eddie Ward as chairman Tuesday July 22 in a called meeting held at noon today the central office.
Ward replaces Wayne Lewis as chairman, who resigned earlier this month.
Ward had to officially resign as vice chair to accept the nomination.
Blake Price also resigned his position on the board this month. The two vacancies could be filled by an appointment by the Commissioner of Education Jon Draud, according to Superintendent Kelley Crain.
Lewis said after nine years he was ready to move on.
"The school board is a corporation where majority rules." Lewis said. "While I wasn't happy with all of the decisions made by the board while I was on it, I wouldn't say that led to my decision. I have multiple reasons which I would rather not discuss."
Price was not available for comment on the subject.
The board heard the first reading of policy changes from the Kentucky School Board Association. Policies  include  pupil transportation, discipline and conduct of pupils, use of school facilities, personnel policies, evaluation of certified employees and accounting for school funds.
Employee benefit guidelines will change to reimburse employees $100 for dental care provided the employee has a dental insurance plan. Also a $10,000 term life insurance policy for employees is covered in the policy, which will have a second reading at the meeting in August.
