Mr. Tufts

Mr. William R. (Bill) Tufts, Age 70 of 252 Veterans Lane, Morehead, passed away Friday, August 6, 2010 at his home after a brief illness.

He was born in Floyd County, Kentucky on September 5, 1939 to the late William S. and Lucille Smith Tufts.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Richard Tufts.

Mr. Tufts was retired from General Telephone Company where he worked as a installer/repairman. He was also an Artist and Sign Painter. Mr. Tufts was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Elliottville Fire Department and enjoyed Woodworking, Painting, Motorcycles, Aviation and Wine-making as a hobby.

He was also a veteran of the United States Army.

For many years he was an American Red Cross Blood Donor and had over the years donated over 25 gallons of blood.

Survivors include his wife Martha Jones Tufts who he married on December 28, 1968. One daughter, Sharon Purnell of Morehead and one son Tom Tufts of Fleming County.

One brother Terry Tufts of Melvin, Kentucky and Two sisters, Evelyn Bunting of Salvisa, Kentucky and Lenora Weaver of Washington Court House, Ohio.

Six grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted 11:00 A.M. Sunday in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Clayton Hanshaw officiating.

Military rites were conducted immediately after the funeral service Sunday at the funeral home by the Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Graveside services were conducted 1:00 P.M. Monday at the Jones Family Cemetery on Riley's Branch in Bevinsville, Kentucky with Terry Issac officiating.

Pall Bearers were Wayne Johnson, James Oney, Eddie Horton, Kenneth Adkins, Kenny Adkins, Aaron Riggsby and Ethan Johnson.

Mrs. Burden

Winifred Burden, 86, a resident of Maysville Nursing and Rehab, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at the center.

She was born Aug. 2, 1924 in Fleming County, the daughter of the late Helen and James B. Lathram.

She was a housewife, a member of the Flemingsburg Christian Church, OES Rebekah Lodge and a avid UK and Fleming County Panther fan.

She was the widow of Robert Burden.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy (Lynda) Lytle of Maysville; a daughter, Elsie (Marty) Mohney of New Mexico; three grandchildren, Cynthia Deem of Flemingsburg, Melissa Moore of Florida and Nathan Mohney of Flemingsburg; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandsons.

Graveside services are 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010 at Fleming County Cemetery.

Visitation is 9-10:45 a.m., Tuesday at Denton-Workman Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Hope, Maysville or Flemingsburg Christian Church.

Mrs. Doyle

Georgia Swim Doyle, age 53, passed away unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, Aug. 7, 2010 at her home.

She was born April 21, 1957, in Lewis County, to the late Harrison "Toot" and Leona Swim.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Gene Doyle in 2009.

Survivors include a son, Ronald Wayne (Sarah) Doyle of Flemingsburg; two grandsons, Harrison and Bennie Doyle; two sisters, Della Browning of Flemingsburg, and Mary Hinson of May's Lick; a brother, Leroy Swim of Lewis County; and two nieces, Jenna Ray Dodge and Laura Lee Dodge.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at the Family Worship Center with Rev. Steve Hickerson and Rev. Theodore Doyle officiating.

Internment will follow in the Doyle Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Tuesday at the Boone - Nickell Funeral Home.

Mr. Whitton

Walter “Brent” Whitton, age 60, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Hillsboro, Kentucky, passed away July 27, 2010, in Bay Pines, Florida.

Born August 16, 1949, in Maysville, Kentucky, he was the son of the late John Matthew and Mary Ruth Wells Whitton.

Brent is survived by his wife, Sarah Lewis Whitton, whom he wed January 29, 1971, in Wallingford, Kentucky; two daughters, Dr. Shannon Egleston and Summer Whitton, of Clearwater, Florida; one sister, Michelle Stout of Danville, Illinois; one granddaughter, Abriana Natasha Egleston, and three grandsons, Steven Tyler Whitton, Vincent Alexander Whitton, and Zane Bradley Egleston, all of Clearwater, Florida.

Other survivors include Sarah’s brothers and sisters, J. W. and Lou Lewis and Wayne and Doni Lewis of Hillsboro, Kentucky, and Betty and Jimmy Hamilton and Danny and Edie Lewis of Wallingford, Kentucky, as well as other devoted family members.

Brent, a graduate of Morehead State University, served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a GTE employee for 26 years and worked in several locations including Fleming, Rowan, and Carter counties. For the past several years, he and Sarah resided in Clearwater, Florida. Brent was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater.

A memorial service will be held August 14, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Hillsboro Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Hamm officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hutton Funeral Home, Hillsboro, Kentucky.

Mrs. Gallagher

Teresa K. Ross Gallagher, age 58, of Ringos Mill Road, Hillsboro, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2010, at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky.

Born October 1, 1951, at Ewing, Kentucky in Fleming County, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Mae Jones Ross. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Ross, and three sisters, Delores Gallagher, Betty LaForce, and Juanita M. Ross.

Teresa is survived by her husband, Gene C. Gallagher; two sons, Terry Gallagher of Gilroy, California, and Patrick Gallagher of Hillsboro; three grandchildren, Felicia Gallagher, Matthew Gallagher, and Nolan Gallagher; and one brother, Claude Ross of Hillsboro.

Teresa was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John Ray Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in the Goddard Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry Evans, Charlie Evans, Mark Evans, Tony Evans, Josh Ross and Clarence Gallagher.
