Mrs. Flora

Drucilla Sue Flora, 71, of Flemingsburg died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010.

Mrs. Flora was born in Nicholas County on Oct. 5, 1938, to the late Wilbert Denton and Virgie Shields.

Mrs. Flora was the retired director of nursing at the Fleming County Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Aaron Tater Flora of Fleming County; a son, Kirk (Paula) Flora of Fleming County; a daughter, Kelly Flora of Post Falls, Idaho; a brother, Joe D. (Judy) Denton of Fleming County; and two grandchildren, Casey Flora and Aliesha Flora.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Denton.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday at the Denton - Workman Funeral Home in Flemingsburg and Greg Denton will officiate.

A private burial service will be Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at the Elizaville Cemetery at Elizaville.

Visitation was 5-8 p.m. Feb. 14, 2010 at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to the scholarship fund at the Flemingsburg Christian Church.

Miss Simms

MAYSVILLE - Miss Phyllis Simms, 69, of Central Avenue passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center.

Miss Simms was born in Maysville on Feb. 5, 1941, to the late Charles Franklin and Gladys Pecola Cooper Simms.

She worked as a production supervisor for Bluegrass Industries and as a waitress at Brown’s Restaurant.

Survivors include one brother, Mark Simms of Maysville; two sisters, Wanda Sparks of Maysville and Effie Gill of Indiana; two nieces, Lisa Thompson of Mays Lick and Danielle Bramble of Indiana; seven nephews, David Simms of Flemingsburg, Larry Chamblin, Andy Simms and Greg Simms all of Maysville, Tony Sparks of Owensboro, Chris Sparks of Ewing, and Ramey Gill of Indiana.

Phyllis also leaves behind her life long companion of 52 years, Gene Hickman.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Everett E. Simms.

Graveside services for Phyllis Simms will be held today, Feb. 15, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Rosemont Cemetery in Dover with Rev. Jim Rawlings officiating. There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brell and Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Johnson

FLEMINGSBURG -- Anna Wallingford Johnson, 89, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010.

She was born August 26, 1920, in Fleming County to the late Lela Christman and Henry Jones. She was a housewife.

She is survived by a son, Cecil Johnson of Lewis County; two daughters, Betty Gulley of Wallingford and Dorothy Hardymon of Wallingford; a brother, George L. Jones of Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Connie Johnson of Flemingsburg; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Johnson; a son, Pvt. 1st Class David Johnson; a brother, William Thomas Jones; a one grandchild.

 

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Denton Workman Funeral Home.

Funeral services 1 p.m., Wednesday Feb17, 2010, at Denton-Workman Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Boling officiating. Burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
