Mrs. Sloas

Bessie Deloris Sloas, 82, of Flemingsburg passed away Saturday morning, March 19, 2011, at Fleming County Hospital after a short illness.

She was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Sandy Hook, to the late Green and Nan Howard Stamper.

She was the owner and operator of Sloas Grocery in Goddard for 20 years before retiring in 1982. She attended the Bluebank United Methodist Church and loved playing bingo in Flemingsburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Berlin Sloas; six brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Luella (Roger) Utterback of Mount Carmel, and Justine (Steve) Allen of Fox Valley; a sisters, Melba Barker of Flemingsburg; four grandchildren, Connie (Reeves) Anderson of Ewing, Shawnda (Thomas) Lasword of Morehead, Earl Reeves of Flemingsburg, and Shane Thomas of Morehead; two step-grandchildren, David (Miranda) Utterback of Mount Carmel, and Chris Allen of Owingsville; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2011, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gifford

Evelyn Mae Gifford, 76, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011, at St. Claire Hospital in Morehead.

She was born Dec. 11, 1934, in Augusta, to the late Les and Emma Campbell.

She had retired from U.S. Shoe Corp after 35 years of service, had worked at Pepsi for 10 years and was also a bookkeeper in her home. She was a member of Flemingsburg United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Gifford; children, Kimberly (Dwayne Newsom) Alderman of Flemingsburg, and Dallas (Randi) Gifford of Winchester; grandchildren, Aaron Alderman, Dakota Gifford, Coty Meade, Mackenzie Gifford, Cory Nason and Christopher Nason; and her siblings, Danny Campbell of Massachusetts, Hildreth Record of Ohio and Dorothy Browning of Missouri.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home.

Visitation is 6 - 9 p.m., today at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Fleming County Cemetery.
