“Ghost Out” at Fleming County High School today

Program seeks to educate students on the dangers of impaired driving

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 27, 2010)--The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is coordinating a “Ghost Out” at Fleming County High School todayThis program utilizes the Grim Reaper to select students throughout the morning; each representing a victim in an alcohol or drug related crash. Once removed from their peers, victims write their own obituary.  A mock funeral for these victims is held during an afternoon assembly, with classmates watching as each one is laid to rest.

Martha Marie Jarvis McCord, 83, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

She was born Feb. 2, 1927 in Rome, Ohio to the late Henry and Lucy Jarvis.

She was the widow of Morton McCord who died in 1981.

She is survived by two daughters, Susie (Cecil) Wilson of Flemingsburg and Judy (Scott) Fryman of Ewing; four sons, Ron McCord of Somerville, Texas, Mike McCord of Carlisle, Steve McCord of Wallingford, and Kenny (Carol) McCord of College Station, Texas; a sister, Kay (Ken) Moore of Danville; four brothers, Harold (Grace) Jarvis of West Union, Ohio, Robert (Itha) Jarvis of Bentonville, Ohio, Frank (Irene) Hoadley Jr. of South Dakota and Donald Hoadley of Missouri; 21 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Edgar Dean McCord and Wayne McCord; two sisters, Ivy Gallagher and Bertha Edmisten; and a brother, Clarence Jarvis.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Hickerson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery.

Visitation after 5 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
