Mr. Goodwin

Bobby W. Goodwin, age 69, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness. He was born March 22, 1939 in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, a son of the late Lawrence and Edith (Medlin) Goodwin.

A 1958 graduate of New Castle High School, he was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis after 35 years of service. He owned Goodwin Bail Bonding for over 32 years and also served on the New Castle Police Department, and was named Outstanding New Castle Police Officer of the Year in 1974. He served on the New Castle City Council for four years and was very active in the Republican Party for many years, running for mayor and sheriff. He was presently employed as the Head Doorkeeper in the House of Representatives in the Indiana State Capitol Building. A Ford Mustang enthusiast, he was a member of several Mustang Car Clubs, the Greensboro Masonic Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars #1282, the Henry County Shriners, and the Eagles Lodge.

A loving father and grandfather, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Anna Jo (Cecil) Goodwin of New Castle, a daughter, Kathie (husband, Leo “Buddy”) Whitlow of Richmond, VA, three sons, Michael Wayne (wife, Monica) Goodwin of Suffolk, VA, Gary Bruce (wife, Dana) Goodwin of Fayetteville, NC, and Tony Goodwin of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Jason Crouch (fiancé, Melissa Smutek), and Nathan (wife, Belinda) Crouch, both of Richmond, VA, Spencer Goodwin of Fayetteville, NC, and Matthew Goodwin of Suffolk, VA; a brother, Elmer “Clete” (wife, Norma) Goodwin of Henderson, NV; two sisters, Jane (husband, Bob) Billings of Indianapolis and Judy (husband, Odell) Stevens of O’Fallon, MO; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Dr. Linda Philabaun and State Representative Tom Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2009 at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service at 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Bobby W. Mrs. Burke

Nancy Alice Maze Burke, age 80, of Colfax Road, Hillsboro, passed away Monday, March 16, 2009, at the Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky.

She was born October 9, 1928, in Nicholas County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Roy and Ruth Spurlock Maze.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Burke; one son, Lowell Burke; two brothers, Vernie Maze and Bob Maze; and one sister, Loretta Maze.

Mrs. Burke is survived by one daughter, Geneva (Thomas) Ross of Hillsboro, Kentucky; two sons, Leonard (Cindy) Burke of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; and Dennie (Rebecca) Burke of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; one brother, J. W. (Wanda) Maze of Hillsboro, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

Mrs. Burke was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the Hutton Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Ricky Maze, Tim Maze, Chris Hamm, Mike Hamm, L. D. Pettit, Herman Shelley , Matthew Maze, Marty Maze, and Mason Maze.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at the Hutton Funeral Home, Hillsboro, Kentucky.
