Mr. James

Willard James Jr., 67, of Maysville, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Meadowview Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 20, 1943 to the late Willard Cort and Lettie James.

He was a retired insurance agent and an active farmer. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, J.W. and Eston James.

Survivors include his wife, Vickie Keyser James of Maysville; one son, Gary James of Lexington; three daughters, Carrie (Shawn) Emmons and Christi (Rick) Johnson of Flemingsburg and Cindy Stacey of Gulfport, Miss.; three sisters, Lena Schwartz and Frieda Willeroy of Flemingsburg and Evelyn Seithers of West Union, Ohio; four grandchildren, Tristan and Tyler Emmons, Nikki Snipes and Samantha (Chris) Cravens; and one great-grandson, Damien Cravens.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Hurst Cemetery, James Road, Flemingsburg.

Visitation after 6 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Strong

 

Marie Kissick Strong, age 69, of Sanford, Fla., formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, William H. Strong; her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie (Strong) and James Sanders; and grandson William, all of Atlanta, GA.

Also surviving are four sisters: Mrs. Paris (Catherine) Jackson, Jr., of Morehead, KY; Mrs. George T. (Viola) Powers, of Stanford, KY; Mrs. Omar (Pauline) Brown of Morehead, KY; and Mrs. Thomas G. (Joan) Moser, of Stanford, KY; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Sorrell Kissick and Omar Kissick, and an infant son.

Marie grew up in and around Morehead and graduated from Fleming County High School in 1959. She served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1965. She moved to Hartford, CT and then to Wethersfield, CT where she lived for more than 30 years.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11 am Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. Michael T. Powers officiating.

Visitation is 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.

Mrs. Rawlings

Christine Black Rawlings, age 93, of Hillsboro, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

Born December 23, 1916, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Henry J. Black and Sallie Choat Black. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Geneva Alfrey, Edith Filson, Eula Ford, Katherine Drouillard, and Billie Jean Butcher, and five brothers, Audrey Black, Clifford Black, John W. Black, Roy Gene Black, and Donald W. Black.

Christine’s husband of 70 years, Suddith Rawlings, whom she married October 8, 1936, passed away January 5, 2007.

She is survived by two sisters, Mabel Pickrell of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, and Alpha Darlene Black of Kenton, Ohio; one brother, Dewie E. Black of LaBelle, Florida; a special nephew, Clarence Wallace; and a special great nephew, Robert Scott Wallace and his wife Joy.

Christine was a homemaker and retired from Randall-Textron in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. She was a Christian for many years and last attended Sharkey Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the Hutton Funeral Home with Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. and Brother Jim Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Morehead.

Pallbearers will be Albert Prewitt, Roger Prewitt, Jerry Ravenscraft, Gerald Saunders, Tim Vice, and Harold Dean Sorrell.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010, and from noon until 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Hutton Funeral Home, Hillsboro, Kentucky.

Mr. Clark

Waltham B. Clark, 86, died Friday morning July 2, 2010, at Clark County Regional Hospital.

He was born Aug. 17, 1923, in Floyd County to the late John D. and Rebecca Hall Clark.

He was a retired machinist at Rockwell International and a veteran of World War II where he received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

He was married to the former Maxine Selby and they resided in Winchester.

He was preceded in death by a foster son, Donald Underwood; and four brothers, Ishmael, Dempsey, Stallard and Kennard Clark.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Roger D. Clark of Winchester; two sisters, Rebecca Herbert of Fleming County and Alice Craycraft of Maysville; six grandchildren, Amy Whistle, Ronnie Clark, Tiffany Clark, Kimberly Clark, Donna Grayley and Bryan Underwood; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Services are 1 p.m., Monday, July 5, 2010, at the Boone - Nickell Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post No. 5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834. Visitation will be after 11 a.m., Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Davis

Victoria "Vickie" Trent Davis, 72, of Ewing, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010 at her residence.

Vickie was born in Rowan County Feb. 5, 1938 to the late Phillip and Ethel Trent.

Vickie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Owen E. Davis, whom she married on June 6, 1956.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Jerry and Kathy Davis of Fleming County, Larry and Lisa Davis of Lewis County, Jimmy and Daryla Davis and Jarrod Keith and Hazel Davis, all of Fleming County.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Jerry O. Davis, Phillip Davis, Jackie Johnson, Jessica Davis, Justa Thomas, Candace Nickell, Chase Whisman, Joshua Davis, Cody Davis, Heather Arnett, Heath Gray and Caleb Davis. Seven great-grandchildren survive.

Also surviving are two brothers, Curtis Trent and Thurman Trent of Rowan County; three sisters, Faye Stover of Morehead, Jean Noe of Harlan County and Elenor McDaniel of Mich.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and other relations and dear friends.

Preceding her in death is one grandson, Jerrick Davis; and four brothers, Cebert, Emil, Emerson and Danny Trent.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Price Bros. Funeral Home in Elizaville with Rev. Todd Wiley officiating. Burial will be in the Elizaville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m.Tuesday at Price Bros. Funeral Home

Mrs. Rice

Carrie Rice, 95, of Detroit, Mich. died Sunday, May 30, 2010, at the retirement home in Detroit.

She was born Oct. 11, 1914, in Fleming County to Edward and Mary Crump Rice.

She was a retired health care provider in Michigan.

She is survived by a daughter, Tonya Randolph; two grandchildren, Christianson, age 12 and Angel, age 3, all of Michigan; one brother, Wilbert Rice of Flemingsburg; two sisters, Bessie Warner of Washington and Margaret Gibbs of Columbus, Ohio; three goddaughters; one godson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, John Harvey Rice, James Rice, Joe Rice and Eugene (Gene) Rice; and four sisters, Rebecca Matthews, Myrtle Peters, Mary Zella Taylor, and Amy McKee, and one grandson, Kamarl.

Services were at the First Church of the Redeemed 9360 Van Dyke, Detroit, Mich.

Burial will be in the Fleming County Cemetery with graveside services on Monday, July 5, 2010.
