The Lewis County Sheriff Department received a call at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, of a motor vehicle accident on Old Trace Road off Ky 59, 2.5 miles south of Vanceburg. Bonnie Butler, 29, of Emerson, was traveling north on Old Trace Road with her two small children, Latasha Pollard, 4, and Casey Pollard, 3. Butler swerved to avoid hitting a deer, overcorrected, and struck a tree on the passenger side of her 1995 Chevy Lumina van. Camp Dix Fire and Rescue responded and extricated the victims from the vehicle. Bonnie and Latasha were transported to St. Claire Medical Center by Medcorp and Carter County Ambulance. Casey Pollard was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Tony Gaydos. Investigation is continuing by Deputy Dwayne Stone.
