Mr. Dickens

Luther James Dickens, age 83, of Mt. Carmel Road, Flemingsburg, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at the U. K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born November 19, 1925, in Dorothy, West Virginia; he was the son of the late Leonard and Myrtle Cook Dickens. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Timothy Dickens, in 1980.

His wife, Velva Kay Lowe Dickens, passed away on November 26, 2005.

Luther is survived by ten daughters, Peggy Dickens, Wilma Harvey, Linda Honaker, Chickie Pietowski, Kathy Bennett, Brenda Johnson, Susan Hoessrich, Cindy Wood, Kimberly Haynes, and Anna Dickens; one son, James Leonard Dickens; two brothers, Clinton Dickens and Dennis Dickens; and three sisters, Phyllis Peters, Imogene Cantley, and Delila Pettrey.

Also surviving is a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Dickens was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in World War II. He was a self-employed excavator.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Hutton Funeral Home with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Little Mary Cemetery on Maxey Flat Road with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2008, at Hutton Funeral Home, 7634 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, Kentucky 41049.
