Mr. Bernard

Darrell Ray Bernard, 61, of Marion went home to his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 24, 2009, at the VA Medical Center in Asheville.
A native of Elizabethtown, he was born on Nov. 30, 1947, to the late Delmar G. Bernard and Libby Bernard Todd.
He was a member of New Horizon Baptist Fellowship, he loved the Lord, his family, his church and loved to sing and praise the Lord. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. Three wives, Joanne, Beulah and Mary, and a sister, Sharon Barker preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Bernard of Marion; his step-mother, Peggy Bernard of Hopkinsville; five children, Tammy Jean Lewis of Wheelersburg, Ohio, Darrell Ray Bernard II of Cincinnati, Darrin Douglas Bernard of West Union, Ohio, Alicia Marie Bernard and Anthony Dion Bernard, both of Marion; three step-children, Craig, Candi and Heather Murdock; four brothers, Terry Bernard and John Todd, both of Flemingsburg and Ronald and Phillip Bernard, both of Michigan; 13 grandchildren; five great -grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Services were held on Monday, April 27, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Phil Murdock officiating. The family received friends prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial was in the McDowell Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy. Memorials may be made to New Horizon Baptist Fellowship at P.O. Box 99, Marion, N.C. 28752.
