According to the Ledger-Independent, Police are investigating a tragic carriage accident that claimed the life of a pregnant Amish woman near Hillsboro.
Esther Miller, 28, of Hillsboro died after sustaining serious injuries in the single-vehicle crash that occurred at dusk Sunday on Kentucky 111, according to Trooper R.V. Lockard, Public Information Officer for the Morehead Post of the Kentucky State Police.
Investigators believe she was seven months pregnant at the time of the accident, Lockard said.
Her husband, Reuben Miller, was driving the horse-drawn carriage on Kentucky 111 at approximately 9 p.m., Sunday when the horses pulling the carriage were "spooked" and pulled the vehicle over an embankment near the roadway, Lockard said.
Esther Miller was transported to Fleming County Hospital and died sometime after 1 a.m., Lockard said. Reuben Miller and two children who were riding in the carriage at the time of the incident were transported to Fleming County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and were later released. The children were 3 and 5 years old, Lockard said.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The Fleming County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene of the crash, and KSP continues to investigate the incident.
Services for Esther Miller will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday at the Ervin L. Miller residence.
