Mrs. Clary

Mary Brooks Clary, 88 a resident of the Shannon-Slip Up Community passed away Sunday July 18, 2010 at her home. She was the widow of Duke Clary whose death occurred on December 20, 1990.

Mrs. Clary was born in May’s Lick on March 12, 1922 daughter of the late William & Myrtle Curtis Swartz. She was a 1940 graduate of May’s Lick High School and a member of the May’s Lick Homemakers. She was named a Kentucky Master Homemaker in 1988 and was a member of Shannon United Methodist Church where she had served as Pianist, Administrative Board Member and a member of the UMW and Choir..

Survivors include 3 sons, William L. “Dick” (Helen) Clary of May’s Lick; Charles D. “Doris” Clary of Lexington. Thomas L. (Susan) Clary of Glastonburg, CT; 2 daughters, Carol Ann (Gerald) Poe of May’s Lick and Mary E. “Libby” (Steve) Poynter of Marietta, GA. 8 grandchildren, Keith (Kris) Clary, Kevin (Amber) Clary, Steve (Beverly) Clary, Scott (Marcy) Clary, Heather (Wes) Dugan, Matt Poynter, Darin (Amy) Poe and Lisa (Reynolds) Moreland. 12 great-grandchildren and a sister Sue (Clarence) Gifford of Washington. Several nieces & nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by a sister Edna Morgan and 2 brothers Holmes Swartz and Cecil T. Swartz.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, July 21, 2010at Shannon United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Finch officiating. Interment will follow in the Shannon Cemetery. Visitation 5-8 P.M. Mr. Lee

Woodrow Wilson Lee, 95, of Flemingsburg died peacefully on July 13, 2010, of natural causes with loved ones by his side.

Mr. Lee was born on April 7, 1915, to Fletcher and Annie Lee in Wallingford. He married his sweetheart, Gertrude (Hickerson) in 1925. They enjoyed a happy and loving marriage for 72 years until Gertrude's death in 2007.

Woodrow loved fishing, eating and working jigsaw puzzles. He was an avid farmer. During his lifetime Woodrow owned and operated a 50 acre farm a few miles outside of Flemingsburg. In addition to farming, Woodrow worked for Boone Funeral Home. He was once the owner/operator of Valley View Service station and he later retired from the Kentucky State Highway Department.

His life will be remembered by his many friends and his loving family including; his son Philip (Carol) of Fleming County; two sisters, Jesse Newdigate of Greenville, S.C.and Hazel Conner of Cincinnati; two grandsons, Jeff (Joy) of Orem, Utah and Greg (Casey) of Taylor Mill; and a multitude of nephews, nieces and cousins.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 16 at the Wallingford United Methodist Church where he was a member for 75 years.

Mr. McIntyre

Willis Lynn McIntyre, 76, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at the University Hospital in Cincinnati.

He was born in Fleming County on May 7, 1934, to the late William Curtis (Spike) and Shella Watkins McIntyre.

Mr. McIntyre was a retired farmer and limestone miner for Carmuese Lime. He was a resident of Glendale Drive in Maysville.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bernadette (Kirby) McIntyre; a daughter, Sharon (George) Lightner of Maysville; a son, Scott (Carrie) McIntyre of Cincinnati; two grandchildren, Shannon and Seth Lightner; a brother, Rondell (Pat) McIntyre of Fairborne, Ohio; two sisters, Brenda (Charles) Wallingford of Union and Jewell McKee of Flemingsburg.

Services were Friday, July 16, 2010, at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Flemingsburg.

Burial  followed in the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Washington.

Mrs. Strong

Marie Kissick Strong, 69, of Sanford, Fla., formerly of Morehead and Flemingsburg, died Tuesday.

She is survived by her husband, William H. Strong.

Services 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel.

Visitation 10 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Mr. Tumey

Arthur William "P.I." Tumey, 86, of Ewing, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at his residence.

Arthur was born in Fleming County May 28, 1924 to James Franklin and Ada Ellen Ritchie Tumey.

Arthur was a farmer, a veteran of World War II receiving a Purple Heart in the Asian Campaign, an avid Road Horseman and received the Horseman of the Year award in Kentucky five times.

Arthur is survived by three sons, David (Judy) Tumey, Barry (Joyce) Tumey and William "Bob" Tumey; three daughters, Geneva (Estill) Helphenstine, Donna (Jeff) Boles, and Sue Tumey; nine grandchildren, Angel Hunt, Dwayne Tumey, David Tumey, Penny Arnett, Stephanie Helphenstine, Barry Tumey Jr., Michael Tumey, Jeff Boles and Bradley Tumey; 13 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four siblings, James Reuban, Robert Samuel, Edward Franklin and Lula Jane Tumey; and one granddaughter, Terra Sue Tumey.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., today at Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville with Rev. Greg Grimes officiating. Burial in the Elizaville Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation was from 6 - 9 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thomas

Olive Marie Thomas, 84, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Fleming County, died Friday, July 9, 2010 in Fairborne, Ohio.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1925 in Rowan County to the late Eugene Grant and Ollie Jane Conley Thomas.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Nepton, a retired housekeeper with Fleming County Hospital and a foster grandparent.

She is survived by one sister, Rosemary (Homer) Johnson of New Carlisle, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Thomas; four brothers, James (Mahala) Thomas; Eugene (Helen) Thomas, Willie (Anne) Thomas, David Thomas; and two sisters, Nola (Ray) Mynhier and Lee Dye.

Services 1 p.m., today at Denton-Workman Funeral Home with Rev. Gaylord Gillispie officiating. Burial in Mount Tabor Cemetery.

Visitation 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Arnold

Gracie Mae Alice McKee Arnold, 87, of Crest Avenue, died Friday, July 9, 2010.

She was born on July 31, 1922 in Fleming County to the late Amos Lee and Augusta Mae Sproles McKee.

She was a homemaker and farmer.

She is survived by a daughter, Lida Lou (Calvin) Donaldson of Flemingsburg; a brother, Woodford McKee of Hillsboro; one granddaughter, Nancy (Alan) Sanders; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Austin Sanders of Flemingsburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Arnold; one brother, Hildreth McKee; two sisters, Dorothy Harmon and Vinetta Harmon; and a granddaughter, Noreen Mae Donaldson.

Service 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Denton-Workman Funeral Home with Bro. Earl Clay Sanders and Rev. Lynn Beach officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Park.

Visitation after 6 p.m., today at the funeral home.
