Mr. Colgan

Donald "Sonny" Colgan, 78, of Flemingsburg died Friday, June 5, 2009, at the Fleming County Hospital ER in Flemingsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Talley Colgan. He was the son of the late Martin and Mabel Colgan.
Mr. Colgan was a member of the St. Claire Catholic Church, the Administrator of the Fleming County Health Department for more than 50 years, past president of the State Board of Health, past member of the Fleming County Hospital Board and Ambulance Board, charter member of the Fleming County Golf Course, Flemingsburg Main Street Committee, Citizen of the Year, past president of the Kiwanis Club, and appointed a Kentucky Colonel by three governors. Mr. Colgan was also involved with starting the small fry football league in Fleming County, as well as being a basketball referee and eighth grade basketball coach. He was also the Sports Editor for the Flemingsburg Gazette for many years.
Mr. Colgan is also survived by his son, John Martin (Eva) Colgan of Flemingsburg; two daughters, Teresa (Jon) Mitchell of Flemingsburg and Donita (Dennis) Forte of Flemingsburg); three grandchildren, Michael Ryan Mitchell, Stephen Shane Mitchell and Aarron Michael Forte; and two great-granddaughters, Kendall and Braden.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Denton-Workman Funeral Home. Rev. Norman Wasson will officiate.
Interment will be in the Fleming County Cemetery.
