Mr. Burke

Marvin Jennings Burke, Jr., 86, of 31 Tollgate Drive, Flemingsburg, died Saturday, November 14, after several years of heart problems.

Mr. Burke was born October 30, 1923, in Nicholas County to the late Maymie and Marvin Jennings Burke, and was a dairy salesman for Clover Leaf Dairy for over 30 years and then employed by Federal Mogul and by Grimes Greenhouse. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a cannoneer in the Asiatic Pacific, and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Maysville.

He is survived his wife, Ellen Long Burke; a daughter-in-law, Susan Burke, Maysville; a grandson, Michael David (Melissa) Burke of Union, Ky.; Great-grandchildren Delaney, Katie, and Griffen Burke; a brother, Johnny (Peggy) Burke, Ewing; and by four sisters, Emma Lee Ungeright, Columbus, Ind., Naomi Cropper, Washington, Ky., Betty Beckett, Amelia, Ohio, and Janet (Sam) Fullenkamp, Sardis.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Hiatt Burke; two brothers, Earl and William Burke; and one sister, Pauline Cropper.

Visitation is Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Denton-Workman Funeral Home. Services are Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Denton-Workman, with Bro. Tony Leiss and Bro. Greg Grimes officiating.

Interment with military rites at the graveside will follow in the Elizaville Cemetery.
