Arts Council meets Oct. 28

The Fleming County Council for the Arts meets Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 6 pm in the office of the Flemingsburg Gazette. All members are welcome and encouraged to come and participate as plans begin for the next year of arts activities.

Fleming fires may be arson

As reported Wednesday on WKYT-TV in Lexington, a rash of mobile home fires in Fleming County has the county sheriff and Kentucky State Police investigating the cases as arson. Three vacant mobile homes in the Hillsboro area have burned during the past few weeks, and all are suspected to be fires set by an arsonist.

Anyone with information on the fires should contact Sheriff Scotty Royse or the State Police in Morehead.

Maysville Ghost Night Canceled

Due to expected inclement weather and staff illness the Gateway Museum Center in Maysville has canceled the
museum annual Ghost Night this Friday, October 23rd.

Michael Brown

Shaun Michael Brown, 9, of Ringos Mill Road, Hillsboro, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at the Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Shaun was born April 1, 2000, in Rowan County and was the son of Kenneth Wayne Brown of Owingsville and Cindy Lynn Nickell of Hillsboro.
He was preceded in death by twin brothers, Samuel and Nathaniel Brown.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, James Marx, Stephen Marx and David Marx, all at home; one sister, Samantha Marx, at home; maternal grandparents, Porter and Marilyn Brown Nickell of Wallingford; paternal grandparents, Everett and Alice Kimble Brown of Owingsville; and step-father, Samuel Marx of Sandy Hook.
Shaun was a student at Hillsboro Elementary School.
Services will be conducted 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Earl Nickell Jr., Jameson Skaggs, Craig Comer and Eric Perry. Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Cassidy, Christian Cassidy, Earl Nickell Sr., William Nickell, Porter Nickell, Daniel Brown, Samuel Marx, Everett Brown and Nathon Maggard.
Visitation is after 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Ms. Jett

Bonnie A. Jett, 40, of Flemingsburg and a well-known social worker at Meadowview Regional Medical Center died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Fort Thomas after a brief illness.
Bonnie was born in Maysville on June 6, 1969, daughter of Mary Linville Jett of Flemingsburg and the late Charles W. Jett. She was a graduate of Mason County High School and Morehead State University. She was active in community activities including the Relay for Life and various boards.
Survivors other than her mother are four brothers, John (Sandra) Jett of Mason County, Charles L. (Mary K.) Jett of Hardin County, Robert (Donna) Jett of Bracken County, and Timothy (Paula) Jett of Bath County; a sister, Kathy Malone of Flemingsburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Jett.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home in May’s Lick with Pastor John R. Dodson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Shannon Cemetery with her siblings, Charles Lang III and Charles Grandison serving as active pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Lang Jr, Lamont Humphrey and Joey Waddell.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m., today at the funeral home.

Mr. Spencer

Stephen Kevin Spencer, age 24, of Smith Pike, Flemingsburg passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at his residence after a long battle with Goodpasture’s Syndrome.
He was born Oct. 1, 1985, in Rowan County, and is the son of Kevin and Marilyn Perkins Spencer of Flemingsburg.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Herman Perkins, and paternal grandparents, Ernest and Ellen Burton Spencer.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Leslie Spencer Jackson and husband, John of Maysville; maternal grandmother, Luwanna Story Perkins of Flemingsburg; and several aunts and uncles.
Stephen was a 2004 graduate of Fleming County High School and attended Morehead State University.
Services will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at the Tilton United Methodist Church with Pastor Gail Skaggs officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Perkins, Michael Bradley, Isaac Sapp, Matthew Meadows, Tim Manning and Aaron Bradley.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. today, Oct. 20, 2009, at the Tilton United Methodist Church, Old Highway 11, Flemingsburg.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hutton Funeral Home, Hillsboro.
