Mr. Basford

Ervin Paul "Jack" Basford, 81, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, peacefully at home.

He was born Jan. 26, 1930, in Rowan County, to the late John and Iva Braggs Basford.

He was the widower of Ruth Ann Williams Basford, whom he was married to for 44 years.

Jack was a retired logger and was employed at Randall's for several years. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He attended Plummers Landing Christian Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Mae and Ricky Jones and his son, Jackie and Nancy Basford, all of Flemingsburg; a sister, Gus Purvis of Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Buzz and Laura Ballard, Tonya Ballard Gulley, Shauna Jones, Donita Jones, Paul and Sandra Basford, Gary Basford, Andrea and Robert Stegall, Jacquelyn Basford, Kevin and Jennifer Basford, Tracy Bussell, and Matthew Vice; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Including his mother and father, he was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb.15, 2010, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 6- 9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a memorial fund for the family in care of the funeral home or to the Cancer Care Club.

Mr. Ritchie

Jonathan Ray Ritchie, 83, of Ewing, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2011, in Fleming County Hospital.

He was born Jan. 5, 1928, in Ewing to the late Ray and Pearl Smith Ritchie.

Jonathan is survived by a nephew, Roy Overbey and wife, Alice of Ewing; a niece, Sandi Tumey and husband, Doug of Ewing; seven great-nephews; four great-nieces; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephew.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Naomi Ritchie Overbey; and a niece, Patty Overbey Bussell.

Services are 2 p.m., Friday at Price Brothers Funeral Home with burial in Elizaville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Overbey, Timmy Overbey, Jackie Overbey, Michael Overbey, Jeff Overbey, Phillip Bussell and Jamie Tumey.

Visitation is 6- 9 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Graves

Edna Lou Graves, 72, of Mount Olivet died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

She was born in Eubank on June 13, 1938, to the late Lora Ethel and Estel Chester Adams.

She was an assistant teacher at Deming Schools, working with beloved handicapped children.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Graves; two sons, John (Lisa) Jeffries of Jacksonville, Texas and Harvey Jeffries of Flemingsburg; four daughters, Robin (Kreager) Powers of Golden, Colo., Rhonda (Alan) Crawford of Cynthiana, Ind., Rita (Brian) Butch of Jacksonville, Fla., Snobiea (Jesse) Harn of Flemingsburg; a sister, Edith Broughton of Dayton, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a step-daughter, Nita (Ryan) Barger of Brown County, Ohio; and a step-son, Randy Graves, of Brown County, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer Adams, Roy Adams and Ray Adams; and a granddaughter.

Memorial service 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Denton-Workman Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Staggs officiating. Burial in Eubank Cemetery at 4 p.m., Tuesday.

Visitation 5-8 p.m., today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Helterbrand

Barbara James Compton Helterbrand, 84, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Life Care Center in Morehead.

She was born March 10, 1926, in Plummers Landing, to the late Lloyd and Mable Evans Compton.

She was the widow of Clyde Bruce Helterbrand who died April 2001.

She was a retired postmaster with the US Postal Service. She was a member of the Muses Mills Christian Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, David Helterbrand in 1992.

Survivors include children, Marsha Helterbrand, wife of the late David Hellterbrand, of Muses Mills, Michael Helterbrand of Morehead, Deborah (David) Martinat of Morehead, Timothy (Carol) Helterbrand of Morehead, Mark (Dixie) Helterbrand of Tollesboro, Rebekah (Harold) Montgomery of Muses Mills, Rachel Lashbrooke of Muses Mills, Nicolas (Teresa) Helterbrand of Muses Mills, Jonathan Helterbrand of Muses Mills, Joseph Helterbrand of Muses Mills; a brother, Charles (Mary) Compton of Mason, Ohio; sisters, Patricia (Eugene) Newsom of Muses Mills, and Gloria Compton Chinn of Vanceburg; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren

Services were Sunday Feb. 6, 2011, at Muses Mills Christian Holiness Church.

Burial  followed  in the Muses Mills Cemetery.

Mr. Fryman

Woodrow "Woodie" Thompson Fryman, 70, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

He was born April 12, 1940, and leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Fryman.

He was preceded in death by his parents Woodrow and Almedia Fryman; a brother, Cecil Fryman; a sister, Patsy Mitchell; and a grandson, Jeromy Keith Fryman.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeff (Tammy) Fryman and Patrick Fryman. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Shaun, Courtney, Trey, Ryan and Payton Fryman; a very special great-granddaughter, Delaney Grayce Hall; and one sister, Nona Dillon.

Funeral services 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville. Burial in Elizaville Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Shaun Fryman, Trey Fryman, Ryan Fryman, Greg Himes, Kash Grimes, Ronnie Littleton, Fred Rose and Raymond Fryman. Honorary pallbearers are Courtney Fryman, Delaney Hall and Payton Fryman.

Visitation 5 - 9 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at the funeral home.

Woodie Fryman

Woodie Fryman, who pitched 18 seasons in the major leagues and was inducted into the Montreal Expos' Hall of Fame in 1995, has died. He was 70.

Fryman won 141 games from 1966-83 with the Expos, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs. He pitched primarily in relief late in his career, saving 17 games for Montreal in 1980.

Fryman had four career one-hitters — including a nearly perfect game when he was a Pittsburgh rookie. He gave up a leadoff hit to the New York Mets, the runner was caught stealing and Fryman didn't allow anyone else on base.

In 1972, Fryman joined the Tigers in the middle of the season and went 10-3 with a 2.06 ERA for them, helping Detroit win the American League East.

Fryman's death Friday night was confirmed by Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville, Kentucky.

Mr. Parish

Thomas Dee “Tom” Parish, age 49, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born June 7, 1961, in Morehead, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Dee and Frankie Thompson Parish.

Tom is survived by one sister, Elaine (Rick) Keller of Hillsboro, Kentucky; three brothers, Bob Thompson of Bellevue, Michigan, Art (Donna) Parish of Owingsville, Kentucky, and Ron Parish of Owingsville, Kentucky; several nieces; a nephew; other family and friends.

Tom graduated from Rowan County Senior High School in 1979 and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hiking and camping.

A memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2011, at the Salt Lick Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Andy Lands officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Church.
