Mrs. Childrey

MAYSVILLE -- Kathryne F. Childrey, 84, of Highland Hollow Apartments, Maysville died Monday, March 22, 2010 at her residence.

She was born March 18, 1926, to the late John Will Faris and Delta Simpson.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Harrison Himes and Maurice Hamm.

She was a retired school teacher for the Lewis County Board of Education. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vanceburg. Mrs. Childrey graduated from Morehead State University and attended Berea College. She was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, a Lioness of Maysville Lions Club and attended Highland Christian Church Study Group.

She is survived by her children, Connie H. Stamm and husband, Scotty of Maysville, Dixie L. Helterbrand and husband, Mark of Burtonville, Harrielta H. Hardy and husband, James of Plummers Landing and John Will Himes of Oak Ridge; 10 grandchildren, Tara L. Prater, Scott A. Stamm, Harrison B. Helterbrand, Kathryne F. Moland, James R. Helterbrand, Jeramiah James Hardy, Amber Mae Justice, Samantha Dawn Cropper, KC Ray Cropper and Shawn William Himes; nine great-grandchildren, Cathrine Lee Prater, Victoria Lee Prater, Aiden Bryce Stamm, Lucas Scott Moland, Sophia Grace Helterbrand, Cassie Ray Hardy, Kaleb Charles Justice, Andrew James Hardy and Hunter King; and sisters, Coranelli Beckett of Cincinnati, Garneda Goodwin of Germantown and Geraldine "Jeri" Heck of Louisville. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Maye Carr and Virginia Hayes.

Services are Friday, March 26, 2010, 11 a.m., at Barbour and Son Funeral Home, Tollesboro. Pastor Howard Wilson will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Gardens of Memories in Plumville. Pallbearers are Scotty Stamm, Jeramiah James Hardy, Harrison Helterbrand, KC Cropper, James Helterbrand, Kelly Prater, Shawn Himes and Ben Moland.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 25, at the funeral home.
